About Brad

When I was 3 or 4 my parents used to tie me to a small anchor in the back yard so I wouldn't get away. One day, they heard a knock on the back door. "Who on earth would be at the back door"? It was me. I had carried the anchor, still tied to it, to the back door and wanted in. Change-oriented back then (I was walking at 9 months), I have always seen the status quo as a push off point to an improved situation.
The wider world drew me as a young adult. At 18, I got on a train, with my wife to be, Tina. We passed through the farm where I grew up and three days later were on the other side of the country where we spent two years. We still have the trunk that contained our music and clothes! Since that time, we've raised three kids, lived and worked in 14 locations including, Ontario, Alberta, Missouri and Africa - on the edge of the Sahara Desert.
Being curious is not an attitude I need to cultivate – I live there. For me, it's always been natural to do what Alvin Toffler talked about 30 years ago: In the future, he said, people will have to "learn, unlearn and relearn" on a continual basis. This kind of learning agility is natural for me.
I gravitate to global perspectives (everything is connected!),
but I also like
drilling down to
the concrete, tactical issues to make things happen.
My credentials:
I hold a Bachelor of
Science in
Politics and International Relations from the London School of Economics,
specializing in organization behavior and development. Contrary to
what some people believe
about the effectiveness of a
social sciences degree today, Peter Drucker held that management
education today should put "far more
emphasis on government, society, history and the political process".
This is what I believe. I also have a Post
Graduate Certificate in
Human Resources Management from Lambton College.
Presently, I am a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) candidate and a member of the Human Resources Professionals Association. I am also an independent consultant for Birkman International, certified affiliate for 5 Dynamics and an Associate member of Families in Global Transition.
My
philosophy: In a nutshell - two things:
- Find your Voice!
- Better Together!
This is a life long process. It involves each other all along the way. Leaders have a responsibility to enable others to act.
One phrase captures my life and work: People,
Change, Potential

My workshops focus on
individuals
and the
team context - together. You can't
separate
these. In addition, let's appreciate the fact that work is the key social
context we find ourselves in today. Over 50% of our entire lives are
spent inside organizations. We truly live in a business civilization. At work, the
individual, physical, mental, spiritual, and financial bottom
lines all intersect. I address all these issues in my workshop
and together we discover more
productive (and sustainable)
paths forward for your specific workplace.
Organizational life can be much better if we are willing to create new organizational structures that support the actual strengths of the people that show up for work each day. It's time to move beyond a mere instrumental connection to each other. To be fully human (and to do our best creative work), we must go off script sometimes, and modify with our roles here and there. This can be messy at times and will take us into unknown spaces. But what's the alternative? Here's some: Sweeping Differences under the Rug. Pretending. Failing. Withering. Losing Business. Mission Creep. Auto pilot. Ego pilot. Bankruptcy. Cog or Cannon Fodder.
